San Luis Gonzaga bay located south of San Felipe, just

after passing the “Islas Encantadas” (Enchanted Islands) which can be seen from the highway. There are no town around this area, only a hotel and some RVs and a strip of houses. Most of the residents here are from the States.

This bay was discovered in 1746 by the Jesuit Fernando Consag, a Croatian missionary, and cartographer that went on to explore and build missions throughout the peninsula.

Furthermore between Puertecitos and San Luis Gonzaga are the “Islas Encantadas” which can be reached by renting a boat. The closest to shore is “El huerfanito”, that stands out because of its white color, this is due to guano deposits made thru the years. Behind are the rest of the islands: Salvatierra, Isla del muerto, Poma, El choguda and Lobera.
